News update:
While the preparations are underway for the event at Roquetas de Mar, Spain from 6th to 15th May 2026, the ICCD would like to report that there had been 3 different events towards the end of 2025 – details of each would be given at the ICCD Congress on 14th May but below is a brief report of each event
In September 2025, Sirojiddin Zaynidinov of Uzbekistan in conjunction with ICCD-Asia successfully organised the 4th ICCD-Asia Individual Deaf Chess Championships with Blitz and Rapid-play events also happening. Several countries participated such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India as well as players from Ukraine and Azerbaijan took part. We also welcomed Tajikistan as a new member of ICCD during the ICCD-Asia Congress led by the ICCD-Asia President, Natalya Gorokhova, with Ilan Dwek, ICCD Secretary-General in attendance.
Then in October 2025, FIDE organised the 2nd FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, which took place in Astana, Kazakhstan for players with visual, hearing, or physical impairments . Over 35 countries were represented and ICCD team consisting of young players from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan participated with the ICCD President, Phillip Gardner as a non-playing captain took part. The ICCD team, seeded 29th out of 34 teams played really well exceeding expectations and came 8th overall.
December 2025 saw the very first ever ICCD-Pan America Individual Deaf Championship as organised by Brazil’s Richard van den Bylaardt, took place in Curitiba, Brazil with players from Brazil, Costa Rica, Argentina, USA and Chile. During the tournament, they also found the time to hold an inaugural ICCD-Pan America Congress.
